Egg Plant (Solanum melongena)

Egg Plant (Scientific - Solanum melongena | Sin - එල බටු) an important solanaceous vegetable crop in many countries. Eggplant is usually grown as an annual and features an erect bushy stem that is sometimes armed with spines. The leaves are large, ovate, and slightly lobed.

 Eggplant is a good source of minerals and vitamins, and in total nutritional value, it can be compared with tomato. Most commonly purple, the spongy, absorbent fruit is used in several cuisines. Typically used as a vegetable in cooking. Eggplant is nutritionally low in macronutrient and micronutrient content, but the capability of the fruit to absorb oils and flavors into its flesh through cooking expands its use in the culinary arts.
